Givral Cafe (Saigon, Vietnam)

After our not-so good lunch at Bun Bo Hue, we decided to go to Givral Cafe for a coffee. Givral has been opened in Saigon for years. It is very popular with the locals as well as the tourists because; its very well located (across the street from the Saigon Opera House), it makes very good coffee & pastries and it is affordable.

What also makes Givral popular with the ex-pats of Saigon is that in front of the cafe are three newspaper stands that sells international newspapers such as the Herald Tribune & Financial Times as well as international magazines as Vanity Fair, Vogue, GQ, etc. Once you buy your newspaper or magazine (you need to bargain) you can go into Givral to have coffee, pastry and read what you just purchased.


There is nothing special about the decor of Givral; but it is very comfortable and homey.


The Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk is really good.


The many pastries to choose from.


The service is also very good. They are not the friendliest bunch of people but they are professional.


The entrance that every one is familiar with. Givral is normally a meeting point for people because everyone knows where it is and it is centrally located.


The famous Saigon Opera House. I still want to see an opera in this venue one day.
